It is never easy to diagnose a kid with asthma because the symptoms of asthma are similar to that of other illness like cough or common cold.
It is even harder to determine if an infant is suffering from asthma because while the rattling cough, weak cry, chest cold and grunting when nursing may be signs of asthma, however, it may also turn out to be nothing more than a cold.
It is relatively easier to diagnose small children because they are able to describe how they feel. Always pay attention to what they have to tell you like their chest fell funny or that they are suffering from frequent coughing. Diagnosing asthma kids is not so straight forward because no 2 children suffering from asthma will exhibit the same symptoms.
Some telltale sign that you may want to take note of are consistent coughing at night, chest tightness, wheezing and shortness of breath, rapid breathing or violent coughing after strenuous activities. If these symptoms aggravate with the change in weather, strong perfumes or laughing then it is important that you consult your family doctor as early as possible.
