Its fairly clear now that when people claimed guaranteed riches and wealth that some believed the stock market to be was an illusion. It can and does lead to some quite substantial losses, particularly in the present economic downturn. Any individual or company who purchased banking shares in the recent past will have seen their investment drop considerably, with no bottom in sight. Some banking shares will of course recover over time but possibly not to the level at which they were first bought, hence still recording a loss. For the normal Investor, penny stocks and shares are a long term comittment where market fluctuations have little influence. The real gambler on the stock market is the trader looking for an instant return. This requires an intimate knowledge of the market place and the political influences at work if a satisfactory outcome is to be achieved. Not for the faint hearted!
